Then Sings My Soul
The musings of a goofy guy who is trying to make a difference in the world.
If you like cheesy music, sappy romantic movies, camping, college football (especially the University of Utah), conservative values, and faith in Jesus Christ you may find this interesting...

Cyber Missionaries
So my good friend Elder Spendlove is now writing a blog and has a Facebook account as efforts to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ using the Internet. How cool is that.

My burdens
I read this passage today in Matthew 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
"Why does God allow his choldren to suffer?". This is a question I'm not sure anyone can fully answer. Why does someone struggle with addiction to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, same gender attraction, pornography? How can a loving god allow his children to be abused, neglected, and exploited?
Why did he allow his son to suffer in the Garden of Gethsemane and then again on the cross? He who has all power could have caused it all to end and save his beloved son from unspeakable suffring. But he didn't.
As I struggle with my burdens I need to rely on the fact that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son as a willing sacrifice. Were it not for that sacrifice none of us would be saved. He did not remove the trial from his Son so why would he remove my trials?
Instead because of the Savior's prayer God the Father sent an angel to strnengthen him in his trial. Perhaps I need to change my prayer to make me equal to my trial and not to have it removed.

Update from the road
Day one. 7:25 PM. I'm 40 miles outside of Childress, TX. Should have enough gas to get there but I hope there's gas in the little town 6 miles from here. I have about an hour and 45 minutes left on day one's drive.
These are some long straight roads. The rise in elevation is constant. (I imagine I'm around 2700-3000 feet above sea level and am needing my ears to pop!
The sun's just gone down behind the ridge to my left so no more squinting for now.
There's a beautiful nearly full moon to my right. After 6 1/2 hours in the car it will be good to stretch my legs.
Yikes! Gas is $2.75 a gallon ($2.49 in San Antonio!). Oh well, it's better to pay now than chance running out!
Thankfully I'm getting a weak signal out of Lubbuck to hear Mark Levin. I love his rants!

Amarillo By Morning
What a day. Packing, packing, packing. What to take? What won't fit? What can I live without?
It felt like 120% humidity. Is that possible? There were so many boxes and bags. Take them down 2 flights of stairs. Put them in the car. Take them out and re-arrange them. Cram each nook and empty space.
The goal was to leave by 9 AM. That came and went. New goal: 10 AM. Nope not a chance. How about 11 AM? Fat chance. Noon! Dream on! Finally 1 PM and the car is stuffed to the gills. Everything I hoped to bring fit! It's the Packing Day Miracle!
Now to get the keys to my dear friend Jennifer. She's my angel who's helping to get the last few items to their new owners. Thanks Jen!
Of course it's raining! Now to begin the 8 hour journey to Clarendon to see my sister Eddi!

Last Day
Tomorrow is my last day at work. I have learned so much about myself, about others and am really grateful for the time that I have spent at Crowne Plaza San Antonio Airport Hotel.
I have worked with some incredibly awesome people and am looking forward to new adventures!
Happy Last Day at Work Eve!

Be Not Afraid Only Believe
http://byub.org/talks/Talk.aspx?id=2202
This talk, given by Gordon B Hinkley two days before 9/11 was very meaningful to me. I was there at the Conference Center when he gave it and I remember thinking to myself, "This man really gets it". Little did we realize at that time how important the title would be when two days later our nation was attacked here on American soil, rocking the very core of some people.
The lack of belief in anything will be the downfall of our great nation. We have so many people who have an "Anything goes" mentality that instead of standing for something we end up standing for nothing. Standing for nothing will not create the kind of passion necessary for greatness.
The adversary knows this and uses this tool to create an apathy towards anything that will point one towards God. This is and will continue to be one of his greatest tools.
